A356 Aluminum Alloy Castings Composition:
Si content 6.5%-7.5%, Mg content 0.25%-0.45%, Fe ≤0.20%, Cu ≤0.10%, Mn ≤0.10%, Zn ≤0.10%, Ti ≤0.20%, Al balance. It is a heat-treatable aluminum alloy with a fine dendritic structure.
Features:
- Lightweight & High Strength: Density only 2.68g/cm³, 35% lighter than steel castings, while heat treatment (T6) can improve tensile strength to ≥310MPa, balancing weight reduction and structural stability.
- Excellent Corrosion Resistance: The dense oxide film formed on the surface and alloy composition make it resistant to atmospheric, freshwater and mild chemical corrosion, suitable for outdoor and marine environments.
- Good Castability & Machinability: Low melting point, good fluidity, easy to form complex shapes (thin-walled parts, intricate structures); post-casting machining performance is excellent, ensuring high precision.
- Superior Thermal Conductivity: Thermal conductivity up to 150W/(m·K), 4-5 times that of steel, ideal for heat-dissipating components such as engine parts and electrical enclosures.
Limitations:
- Lower high-temperature resistance: Above 200℃, mechanical properties decrease significantly, not suitable for long-term high-temperature working conditions.
- Poor wear resistance compared to steel: Need surface treatment (hard anodizing) for wear-prone parts.
- Higher cost than ordinary cast iron, but cost-effective considering weight reduction and corrosion resistance.
